Positive Handling &
Physical Intervention
Let's Find The Right Course For You
No member of staff ever wants to perform a physical intervention, but to keep your pupils and staff safe it is important that they understand how to safely and effectively stop a child from harming themselves or others. Our bespoke one day course aims to empower staff with an understanding of what they can and can’t do as well as giving them both legally compliant and properly risk assessed techniques to perform an intervention if needed.

The focus of this essential training is always on de-escalating situations; however, it is important for staff to know how to safely and effectively intervene physically where necessary, in order to prevent a greater harm from occurring. We will look at how things like classroom layout, lesson planning and body language can all help to compassionately manage escalating behaviour without the need to perform any physical interventions.
Our training is split into two sessions with the first covering risk reduction and the legal aspects of performing physical interventions with children and young people. The second session contains low-level physical interventions which are appropriate yet effective, enabling staff to consider the holding, handling & escorting of pupils.
