Can First Aid Training Be Done Online?

a man learning life saving first aid skills onlin

The quick answer is ‘yes’, the longer answer is ‘it’s complicated’

While there are many online first aid courses available, whether or not they are right for you will depend on what you need the qualification for.

Online vs. In-Person: What's the Difference?

  • Online First Aid Courses: These typically involve video lessons, interactive quizzes, and downloadable resources. You can learn at your own pace and in your own time. Check out the ones we run HERE

  • In-Person First Aid Courses: These involve practical demonstrations, hands-on practice, and direct feedback from a qualified instructor. Check out the ones we run, tailored for the education industry or your workplace

Why Choose an Online Course?

  • Convenience: Learn from anywhere with an internet connection, at any time.

  • Cost-effectiveness: Online courses are sometimes cheaper  than in-person training, but not always by as much as you think. At Oodles adding an extra person onto an EFAW course that is already running  is from as little as £37. A basic online course is £25

  • Flexibility: Fit your learning around your schedule.

Why Choose an In-Person Course?

  • Hands-on experience: Practice essential skills like CPR, defibrillators, bandaging and choking with expert guidance.

  • Confidence: Develop the confidence to respond effectively in a real-life emergency, and have opportunities to ask questions.

  • Tailored: courses can be tailored to your place of work to make sure they are really relevant

  • Qualifications: In-person courses typically include a practical assessment to ensure competency and as a result offer a qualification that is recognised or needed in more organisations

Are Online First Aid Courses Valid?

This is where it gets tricky. Some online first aid courses are purely for informational purposes and do not lead to a recognised certification, for example the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) require a practical element for the course to comply with their requirements. However, there are some online first aid courses that do meet certain requirements. If you’re unsure about what you need or whether a particular course meets your requirements, get in touch with us, we’ll do our best to help.

Want the best of both worlds?

At Oodles Training we offer a wide range of our courses as blended learning.  This means you can complete some of the syllabus online via video learning before you come to us for a practical session.  This has the benefit of reduced cost and fixed time commitment vs purely face to face whilst still getting the valuable hands on experience and feedback from one of our expert instructors.  You can find out which of our courses are available as blended options and all the details HERE
